Porsche electric cars used: Taycan buying guide

Porsche electric cars used buying guide: Taycan battery warranty, recalls, 800-volt charging, options and steep depreciation.

· 7 min read

Among Porsche electric cars, the Taycan is the one dealers meet in trade, and it is now one of the best-value fast EVs on the used market. It lost value very steeply in its first years, so a 2020–2021 car costs a fraction of its new price. Buy after that drop, check recall work, battery health and options carefully, and price the specification buyers actually pay for.

Which Porsche electric cars are on the used market?

Yes. Porsche's fully electric cars are the Taycan, launched in 2019 and built in Zuffenhausen, Stuttgart, and the electric Macan launched in 2024. The Taycan comes as a four-door saloon, the Sport Turismo estate and the raised Cross Turismo, in versions from the rear-wheel-drive base Taycan to the 4S, GTS, Turbo and Turbo S.

Taycan generation Batteries (gross) DC charging Notes
2019–2024 79.2 kWh Performance Battery, 93.4 kWh Performance Battery Plus Up to 270 kW 800-volt system; most used cars are this generation
2024 facelift on 89 kWh and 105 kWh Up to 320 kW Much better range and charging, more power

The Audi e-tron GT shares the Taycan's platform and drivetrain. If you price one, compare it with the other; our guide to the used Audi e-tron GT covers it.

How fast does a Porsche Taycan depreciate?

The Porsche Taycan depreciates faster than almost any other Porsche, and much faster than a 911 or Cayenne. Sales of new Taycans fell from 40,629 in 2023 to 20,836 in 2024, and the 2024 facelift with more range and faster charging made early cars look dated overnight.

According to listings tracked by MyCarDealer in October 2026, median asking prices for the Taycan in the European countries we follow were:

Model years Listings Median price Median mileage
2020–2021 334 €59,995 69,800 km
2022–2023 526 €69,000 49,000 km
2024–2025 282 €93,751 21,900 km

Country differences are significant. For 2020–2021 cars, the Netherlands (€54,995) was the cheapest market, against €59,500 in Belgium, €59,900 in Italy, €61,921 in Sweden, €62,990 in France, €63,900 in Austria and €67,507 in Czechia. For 2022–2023 cars, Sweden (€61,921) and the Netherlands (€64,950) were lowest and Czechia (€73,280) highest, with Germany at €69,799.

Because Taycan versions range from a rear-wheel-drive base car to the Turbo S, the median hides huge differences. Compare by version, battery and options, not by model year alone. The €25,000 gap between 2022–2023 and 2024–2025 cars shows where the next big drop is coming: facelift cars will lose a lot as they age.

Why is the Porsche Taycan so cheap used?

The Taycan is cheap used because early buyers took the steepest depreciation, supply of returning lease and company cars is large, and the facelift raised the bar on range and charging. For a buyer, that makes a three- to five-year-old Taycan a lot of car for the money; for a dealer, it means buying at the right price matters more than anything else.

What recalls affected the Taycan?

The Taycan has had several recalls, and the most important for used buyers concerns the high-voltage battery. In 2024 Porsche recalled Taycans built from 2020 to 2024 because an issue in the production of battery cells at LG Energy Solution's plant in Poland could, in rare cases, cause an internal short circuit and increase the risk of fire. In the US alone, more than 27,000 cars were affected. Owners were advised to limit charging to 80% until the repair, which involves replacing affected battery modules and installing new diagnostic software.

Earlier recalls dealt with software that could cause a loss of drive power. Before you buy any Taycan:

  1. Run a recall check by VIN with a Porsche Centre and get confirmation in writing that all recalls are closed. Our guide to checking recalls on used stock explains the process.
  2. Ask whether battery modules were replaced under the recall; a documented replacement is a selling point.
  3. Check the software level and any open service campaigns.

Which Taycan options add resale value?

Taycan options matter to resale more than on most cars, because a well-specified car sells much faster than a basic one at a similar price. Options buyers ask for and pay for:

  • Performance Battery Plus on Taycan, 4S and Cross Turismo models: more range, and a big point of difference on early cars.
  • Adaptive air suspension where not standard, for comfort.
  • Rear-axle steering, which makes a large car feel smaller.
  • Heat pump on early cars, important for winter range.
  • Panoramic roof, Burmester audio, ventilated seats and larger driver assistance packages.
  • 22 kW onboard AC charger, valued by buyers with three-phase wallboxes.
  • Sport Chrono package on sportier versions.

Exotic colours and expensive interior trims rarely return their cost. A base car with few options is the hardest Taycan to sell.

What should I check on a used Taycan?

Check a used Taycan in this order: battery and recall status, charging hardware, then the expensive wear items.

  1. Battery state of health. Porsche's high-voltage battery warranty runs for 8 years or 160,000 km; get a health report from a Porsche Centre and note how much warranty is left. Our EV battery health check guide explains the methods.
  2. Recall and service campaigns, as above.
  3. AC and DC charging test. Test both charging ports and a rapid-charge session; faults in the 800-volt system are expensive.
  4. 12-volt battery. Weak 12 V batteries cause warning messages and, in some cases, cars that will not wake up.
  5. Tyres and brakes. Heavy and powerful, the Taycan eats tyres. On cars with ceramic brakes, check disc condition; replacement costs are very high.
  6. Suspension, especially air suspension leaks on high-mileage cars.
  7. Body and wheels. Kerbed wheels and paint damage are expensive to fix to Porsche standards.

Which car is better, a Tesla or a Porsche?

For a used buyer, a Tesla Model S or Model 3 Performance offers lower running costs and a strong charging network, while the Taycan offers a much better driving experience, build quality and brand status. They appeal to different buyers. For a dealer, the relevant comparison is with the Audi e-tron GT and with other premium EVs at the same price, such as the BMW iX or Mercedes EQE.

How to buy and price a used Taycan

Buy a used Taycan only after checking the exact version, battery and options, and work backwards from a realistic retail price in your own market. A sensible routine:

  1. Find comparable cars: same version (base, 4S, GTS, Turbo), body, battery and key options.
  2. Deduct VAT, preparation (tyres, brakes, detailing), battery report, transport and profit.
  3. Allow for further depreciation while the car stands; set a short target for days in stock.
  4. Consider buying abroad where prices are lower, such as the Netherlands for early cars.
