Small electric cars for used stock: what sells best
Small electric cars for dealers: Fiat 500e, e-up, Zoe, Dacia Spring and Honda e demand, battery checks and city-car pricing.
· 7 min read
Small electric cars sell well used when they are cheap, have an owned battery with a known health figure and go to the right buyer: city commuters and second-car households with home charging. The Renault Zoe, Fiat 500e, VW e-up and Dacia Spring are the volume models in Europe. Margins are thin in euros, so buy cheaply, test the battery and sell quickly.
Which small electric cars sell best used?
The small electric cars that sell best used are those with enough real range for daily use, a familiar brand and an owned battery. In continental Europe, the volume models are:
| Model | Battery | Official range | What dealers need to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| Renault Zoe (ZE50, 2019 on) | 52 kWh | About 390 km WLTP | Longest range in the class; many sold with a rented battery |
| Fiat 500e (2020 on) | 24 kWh or 42 kWh | 185 km or 320 km WLTP | Strong design appeal; buy the 42 kWh version |
| VW e-up (2019–2023) | 32.3 kWh usable | About 260 km WLTP | Simple, robust, slow-ish DC charging (up to 40 kW) |
| Dacia Spring (2021 on) | About 27 kWh | About 230 km WLTP | Cheapest EV; basic, built in China, one-star Euro NCAP rating in 2021 |
| Honda e (2020–2023) | 35.5 kWh | About 220 km | Rare, design-led, production ended in 2023–2024 |
| Mini Cooper SE (2020–2024) | 28.9 kWh usable | Up to 234 km WLTP | Strong brand, short range |
| Peugeot e-208 | 50 kWh | Around 340 km WLTP | Larger supermini; check the onboard charger |
The Zoe and the 42 kWh 500e are usually the easiest to sell because they have the most range. The Spring sells on price alone and has a buyer of its own: the cheapest possible EV for short trips.
How much range do buyers need from a city EV?
Most buyers of a used city EV need 150–200 km of real range, which covers a week of commuting for many and a full day of city driving for almost everyone. Below about 120 km of real range, your buyer pool shrinks to people with very short, predictable trips and a second car.
When you advertise, give an honest real-world estimate for summer and winter, not just the WLTP figure. A buyer who knows the Spring does 150 km in summer and less in winter will not come back angry. Real-world range is typically 20–30% below WLTP on the motorway or in cold weather.

Request accessHow do I check a small EV's battery?
Check a small EV's battery with a proper state-of-health reading, because on a small battery every percent of lost capacity is real range lost. Methods include a dealer diagnostic readout, a manufacturer battery certificate or an independent battery test; our EV battery health check guide explains them.
Also check, model by model:
- Battery ownership on the Zoe. Many Zoes were sold with a rented battery. A car with a rental contract must be sold with the contract transferred, or the battery bought out. Advertise owned-battery cars clearly; they are worth more. Our guide to Renault electric cars used explains the details.
- Battery size on the 500e. The 24 kWh version has much less range. Make sure the advert is correct.
- DC charging on the Spring, which was optional; many cars only charge on AC.
- Charging cables. Small EVs often come without a Type 2 public cable, which costs the buyer extra.
- 12-volt battery on every car, especially after long standstill in your yard.
Used small EV prices across Europe
Used small EV prices vary a lot by country, which gives dealers room to buy where cars are cheapest. According to listings tracked by MyCarDealer in October 2026, median asking prices in the European countries we follow were:
| Model | Years | Listings | Median price | Median mileage |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Fiat 500e | 2021–2023 | 212 | €17,445 | 28,400 km |
| Renault Zoe | 2020–2022 | 507 | €14,083 | 54,500 km |
| VW e-up | 2020–2023 | 127 | €13,980 | 45,300 km |
| Dacia Spring | 2021–2023 | 528 | €11,299 | 29,800 km |
By country:
- Dacia Spring: Italy €9,900 and Czechia €10,182, against €12,480 in Germany, €11,750 in Belgium, €11,490 in Spain, €11,450 in the Netherlands and €10,999 in France.
- Renault Zoe: Italy €11,950 and Spain €12,890, against €15,499 in France, €14,945 in the Netherlands and €14,780 in Germany. Part of the gap is likely to be battery-rental cars listed lower, so check before comparing.
- Fiat 500e: Italy €15,999, against €17,950 in Germany, €17,940 in the Netherlands and €17,801 in Sweden.
- VW e-up: Italy €12,300, against €14,499 in Germany and €15,000 in the Netherlands.
Italy is the cheapest market for every one of these models in our data. With a city EV, though, transport costs eat a bigger share of the margin, so the gap needs to be at least the cost of transport plus a buffer.
Are small EVs profitable for dealers?
Small EVs are profitable for dealers when the purchase price is low enough and the car sells quickly. The margin in euros is small compared with a family SUV, but small EVs are cheap to prepare: no oil service, few wear items and usually little to fix.
The risks are:
- Falling values while in stock. New small EVs keep getting cheaper and better, so a car that stands for two months can lose more than your margin.
- Narrow buyer pool for short-range cars, especially outside cities.
- Battery rental complications on Zoes.
- Transport costs that are high relative to the car's value.
Work out your maximum bid backwards: realistic retail price, minus VAT on your margin, preparation, battery test, transport and your target profit. MyCarDealer does this from live listings in your country and shows where the same model sells for more; you can try it with a free valuation.
What is the most affordable small EV?
The most affordable small EV on the used market is the Dacia Spring, with 2021–2023 cars at a median of €11,299 in October 2026 in the countries tracked by MyCarDealer. It is basic, slow and short on safety ratings, but for a buyer who needs cheap local transport it makes sense.
Next up are the VW e-up and the Renault Zoe at around €14,000, and the Fiat 500e at around €17,500, which buys more style and, in the 42 kWh version, more range. For a premium alternative, see our guide to the used Mini electric car.
How to sell small EVs faster
Sell small EVs faster by targeting the right buyers and removing their doubts:
- Put the battery health figure in the first lines of the advert.
- State real-world range for summer and winter.
- Mention charging options: AC power, DC capability, cables included.
- Target city buyers and second-car households in your ads.
- Offer a short test drive with a charge demonstration, which removes a common fear for first-time EV buyers.
